VA chief assigns top official to lead probe of Tomah drug allegations

U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald on Monday announced he was sending one of his top lieutenants to conduct a full review of medication practices at the Tomah VA medical center in response to allegations of over-prescription of opiates and retaliation against whistleblowers. "While important changes are being made to improve services to Wisconsin veterans immediately, we must ensure that we fully investigate the issues surrounding the possible overuse of powerful medicines and to share these lessons learned throughout our health care system," McDonald said in a statement.
