Pedestrian crossings are at a crossroads: more time to be given for street crossing

The crosswalks in question are all controlled by the State of Indiana along S.R. 933, S.R. 331, and S.R. 23. "Primarily what we're doing is changing the calculation of signal times at pedestrian crosswalks from four feet per second, to 3.5 feet per second and this reflects some of the latest information on the speed with which people of all types of abilities cross crosswalks in urban areas," said INDOT's Will Wingfield. "We're also making sure that we're incompliance with evolving requirements with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other issues of that nature."
