Supply of surgical techs, nurses trails growing demand

In 2010, there were approximately 93,600 surgical tech jobs in the United States, jobs vital to the smooth operation of thousands of operating suites - hospital and standalone - around the country, and with baby boomers aging, the number of surgeries increases, growing a predicted 25 percent by 2018. "This makes surgical technology one of the most rapidly growing professions in the country," according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics .
