Psycamore Files: Ocean Springs officials were offered compromise two weeks prior to vote

On Nov. 29, 2011, the Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen voted 5-1 to deny a use permit to the Psycamore mental health clinic to operate on Iberville Drive, touching off a series of events which led to the U.S. Department of Justice finding that the city had discriminated against the mentally ill and violated the Americans With Disabilities Act in denying the permit. Two weeks prior to that critical vote, however, the city was presented with a way out of the controversy with a compromise offer from Psycamore through its attorney, Billy Guice of Ocean Springs.
