Own stock in a former employer? Here's how it will be taxed.

Today I have answers to questions in response to my column ealier this month on the taxation of employee stock purchase plans from readers who own shares in companies they left long ago. Q: Susan S. asks, "What happens when stocks were purchased through one of these plans years ago, and the employee has since left the employer and transferred the shares into an account at another investment company? In this case, these were Wells Fargo shares, purchased in the 1990s and moved to our account at Charles Schwab before 2001.
