U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer called Monday for $15 million in federal funds to train people at Onondaga Community College and 30 other State University of New York schools in high-tech manufacturing. Speaking at a news conference at Byrne Dairy's Ultra Dairy plant in DeWitt, Schumer said an estimated 2,800 advanced manufacturing jobs could be created in Central New York and 13,000 across Upstate New York by 2020, but that not enough local residents have the skills for the jobs.
