Smith, who fought for the poor, dead at 76

Attorney Peter Sheridan Smith, who was involved in landmark Civil Rights cases, died from lymphoma Feb. 14 in his Durham home. He was 76. Smith's legal career spanned 50 years, during which he provided legal services to those often denied access, such as African Americans, other people of color, the poor, juveniles, and the disabled.
