Congress Returns With Little Time Left To Fund Government, Prepare for Election

Sept. 5 - Lawmakers are set to return to the Capitol next week with two related goals for the short time remaining in the congressional term-keep the government open for business and position themselves for the November election. A new fiscal year starts Oct. 1, meaning Congress will have to find a way to pass at least temporary appropriations legislation or face a second consecutive government shutdown.
