Agency: Westat unfair to female, minority job applicants

A major Rockville data company has agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle claims that it discriminated against women and minorities in its hiring in 2008 and 2009. Westat Inc. will pay the settlement on allegations by the U.S. Department of Labor that the company didn't provide equal employment opportunities for women, as well as blacks, Asians and Hispanic applicants at its Research Boulevard headquarters and at sites in California, Connecticut, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina and Tennessee, according to a Department of Labor news release.
