Answer Man: Why don't all sidewalks have curb ramps?

Question: Why do some sidewalks not have curb ramps, which makes foot traffic much easier if pushing a baby stroller, and is almost a requirement if in a wheelchair? - Anonymous Answer: All new sidewalks have those curb ramps that some refer to as "wheelchair ramps" for a simple reason: the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Sidewalks older than 25 years often do not have the ramps that make it easier for someone with mobility problems to move from the street curb to the sidewalk, said Rusty Bost, an engineer with the city of Gastonia.
