Seventy-four people have so far applied for the top job at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and the agency has decided to extend the application deadline one more week. DHEC spokeswoman Cassandra Harris did not immediately explain why the Board extended the deadline to April 3. She said the Board still intends to submit its nominee to the state Senate for final approval by May 1. That time line is contingent “upon the board having a qualified group of candidates,” she said.
