Smith County Jail expansion more expensive than originally expected

Surprises, snags and upgrades are pushing the county's jail expansion budget to the brink as construction nears an end. Construction of the $35 million jail expansion is scheduled for completion before December, but commissioners expressed concerns that possible cost overruns may require dipping into cash reserves.
