A Michigan funeral home is facing a lawsuit for allegedly firing a transgender employee after learning she was planning to present herself as a woman. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Thursday filed a discrimination lawsuit against R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home Inc. in Garden City.According to the complaint filed in federal court in Detroit, Amiee Stephens, who had worked for the funeral home since 2007, claims she was fired in 2013 after informing her employer and co-workers that she was undergoing a gender transition from male to female and intended to dress in appropriate business attire at work as a woman from then on.
