In one of the first legislative actions of the new session, an Illinois Senate committee Wednesday morning approved a bill to gradually raise the state minimum wage from the current $8.25 an hour to $11 an hour on July 1, 2019. Bruce Rauner's State of the State message, where he is expected to urge lawmakers to make the state more business-friendly.
