EDITORIAL: Federal shield law should cover new kinds of journalists

[...] Democrats have traditionally backed the media on this concept, and more and more Republicans do too because they mistrust government and want to uphold individual freedoms. [...] why are both sides squabbling over a new federal shield law that would protect journalists who want to withhold the identity of whistleblowers on stories that expose waste, fraud, abuse, etc.? Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is a solid supporter of this bill, the "Free Flow of Information Act," and he says it should cover the new kinds of journalists.
