RIVERSIDE: City pulls meeting video after speakera s allegations

The day after a Riverside City Council meeting where a resident made scandalous accusations about city employees, the city yanked the video from its website and refused to broadcast it on cable, instead re-running an old meeting. How can officials honor critics' First Amendment rights and make council meetings accessible to the public, but also protect city employees from what they believe are unfair, even malicious, attacks? "I don't think this organization should be broadcasting slander," said Interim City Manager Lee McDougal, who ordered that the video of the Tuesday, April 7, meeting be taken down.
