Chicago school purposely fired pregnant teachers, newspaper reports

The federal government has sued the Chicago Board of Education over what it says was a pattern of discrimination targeting pregnant women and new mothers at one elementary school, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune . The principal of Scammon Elementary, who was awarded a bonus for "high-quality" leaders last year, "subjected pregnant teachers 'to disparate treatment with regard to performance evaluation ratings' and other matters, and 'there existed a regular, purposeful, and less-favorable treatment of teachers because of their sex ,'" the Tribune writes, quoting the complaint.
