Boulder Landmarks Board sides with homeowners

Over a 35-year career in Boulder, Modernist architect Hobart Wagener designed over 200 public and private buildings, including Fairview High School, Ideal Market and the University of Colorado's Williams Village, as well as additions to the Boulder Municipal Building and the County Courthouse. The chalet-style home he built 51 years ago at 445 College Ave., however, is not one of his more memorable or aesthetically valuable works, in the opinion of the property's current owners, their neighbors, Boulder's historic preservation staff and, most recently, the city Landmarks Board, which on Wednesday night finally gave the homeowners the go-ahead to demolish the house and build another that suits a disabled member of the family.
