Applications for first-time unemployment benefits dip to second-lowest level in five years

After nearly two months of sharp up-and-down volatility in the numbers, the Department of Labor reported Thursday that a seasonally adjusted 332,000 Americans had filed initial applications for unemployment compensation for the week ending March 9. That is the second lowest level since January 2008.
