Smaller labor force lightens Buffalo unemployment rate

The unemployment rate in the Buffalo area declined noticeably in the past year, the state Department of Labor reported Tuesday. Preliminary figures put the Buffalo-Niagara Falls jobless rate 5.7 percent compared to 7.0 a year ago.
