Civil-Liberties Groups Reject Senate Spy Reform

A cohort of civil-liberties organizations and government "whistle-blowers" oppose a bill in Congress that seeks to reform the government's bulk collection of virtually all U.S. phone records on grounds it falls far short of real surveillance reform. The coalition of leftist and libertarian groups sent a letter to lawmakers Monday urging them to vote down the USA Freedom Act, a measure that has garnered support from a wide swath of interests, including the tech industry and several other privacy groups.
